Workshops
Flourish Workshop - Saturday at 1:30 pm
Taught by Eria Auguste and Amelia Lindsay-Kaufman Amelia started contra dancing in Carrboro, North Carolina and has spent nine years regularly traveling to contra events along the entire East Coast. In addition to contra, she has experience in blues, fusion, west coast swing, and tango. Eria's love of contra dancing began when she was only nine years old at Ashokan Fiddle and Dance Camp. Since then she has practiced multiple other styles of partner dance including English country, square, blues, west coast swing, fusion, and others. Three years ago, she founded Charm City Blues Dance in her hometown of Baltimore, where she also currently organizes fusion dance events. Eria and Amelia utilize their diverse dance backgrounds to integrate new ideas into progressive folk dancing. Their recent series of contra flourish workshops at the local Baltimore dance was met with enthusiasm, and videos summarizing their workshops have become widely watched throughout contra dance communities across the country. As a team, Amelia and Eria aim to teach contra dancers how to access creativity safely and smoothly, getting everyone to the right place at the right time with flair. |
In this contra flourish workshop they will teach a set of new flourishes, including some that are popular in other styles of dance but have not become widely known in contra (yet!), and will focus on helping dancers build the ability to improvise flourishes along a theme.
